Message from City Librarian,
Monica Cameron
Dear Community,
On Thursday, December 3, 2020 an SPL staff member received test results positive for COVID-19 and was quarantined. Two other employees of SPL had worked with that employee while they were unknowingly infected, and one of those two had shown symptoms related to COVID. With that knowledge and a phone consultation with Shelby County Health Department, SPL administration and Board of Trustees closed the library to patrons and offered curbside services. Both exposed employees were tested for COVID. The Library was reopened late in the afternoon of Tuesday, December 8th after both exposed employees had received negative test results.
While the Library was closed to the public, a deep disinfection was performed by Office Janitorial Systems and more plexi-glass was added at the circulation desks. The Library continued to participate in delivery services through the SHARE program so that our patrons could receive requested material.
The health and safety of our patrons and staff is our number one priority. Should another situation like this arise or further restrictions by state or local authorities are directed, SPL will respond in the best way known to protect patrons and library staff.
Stay safe,
Monica Cameron
